New transmitter frontends are required to be on the one hand highly flexible and reconfigureable, allowing different standards and modulation schemes and on the other hand should be highly power efficient and linear.
These contradictory demands can be solved with digital centric transmitter frontends directly controlling switching mode power amplifiers.
Digital control allows high reconfigurability while high power efficiency is offered by switching mode power amplifiers.
The current research project is a direct digital pulse-width/position-modulation transmitter frontend.
